Thiebu Djeun

Submitted by seraphim1970

We ate at Africa Kine Restaurant in West Harlem and the food was really good and tasty. It is a nice place to hang out, the decor is simple with lots of African paintings, it is also quite spacious. The service is slow but what I heard that is normal ... ha! The service staff are very very friendly. Now over to the food, it was my first time eating African cuisine, definitely a nice change. I had the Thiebu djeun which is fish stewed in tomato sauce with eggplant, carrots, cassava & white cabbage, served over exotic rice, that is their traditional dish and it was delicious. My other friends had the Grilled chicken with seasoned vegetable rice and Savory lamb with seasoned vegetable rice. The lamb looked really good but since I don't eat lamb/mutton/goat dishes, I will never find out how tasty the dish is .... heh heh. I had the Ginger Beer, a non-alcoholic drink which seems to have a mixture of ginger, water, sugar, water and have a tinge of citrus taste. The pricing is very reasonable and the portions are big. Everyone definitely had a good enjoyable time.

British Columbia is known for it's Salmon in Canada. Ottawa is thousands of miles away. But they also serve a tasty fish.
Fish Tacos

Submitted by Finn

The sound of the deep fryer, trailer-esque decor, and the ever present aroma of vinegar. If you didn't know better you'd think you stumbled across another fish and chip wagon. Don't let the setting fool you, this little chip wagon is one of the best seafood restaurants in Vancouver. Aside from the usual suspects (fish and chips et al) the menu features some creative alternatives. The day I was there they had cerviches and emperor scallop burgers on the menu, but I settled into two fish tacos, rolled in soft tortilla and grilled. Delicious, original and full of flavour. And the slaw wasn't your usual pre-made out of the tub variety. Lightly tossed in a Balsamic dressing it was the perfect side to this meal. And all this for just $9.00. What a deal! Expect long line-ups on sunny days, but be patient, it's worth the wait.

Pescando con Papas Frittas

Submitted by Finn

Lamar is wearing a Moosehead Beer apron - the pride of Eastern Canada. I'm intrigued how a Canadian Beer apron makes it all the way to Easter Island. Lamar won't have any of it and deflects my question each time I ask it. As the evening wore on and the alcohol worked its magic on me, I'm determined. I ask again, Lamar ignores me. I ask again and this time I poke him in the arm to get his attention. I got his attention alright, he gets all giddy/flustered, flaps his hands in the air and shuffles off into the kitchen. I never did find out where that apron came from. Oh yeah the meal, grilled fish with fries. It was good.
Sea Bass

Submitted by jt99

The sea bass was the fresh fish of the day and it came grilled with a choice of sauces. I opted for the shrimp, parsley & lemon blend which was delightful. Food, wine list and service were great. Atmosphere was uber-trendy. A nice treat but expensive.
Fish and Tofu Hotpot

Submitted by Finn

A sizzling hotpot of an unknown white fish (Sole I think), deep-fried tofu, chinese mushrooms and bamboo shoots. Even my Mother, resident Chinese cuisine expert in the family, enjoyed it. It was her first time here and gave the restaurant her 'seal of approval'. Now that's an endorsement you can bank on.
Tandoori Trout

Submitted by wilhelmus

The presentation of this sissling Trout raised expectations. Edward, who had to eat it looked very satisfied.
