Dungeness Crab Cakes

crab, eggs, breakfast, english muffin, hollandaise,
Submitted by Finn

We ducked into this place mostly to get out of the rain. What a find! Relaxed atmosphere and great food. This is like a Benny, but taken apart. Two dungeness crab cakes, topped with two poached eggs and hollandaise sauce, with the English muffins served on the side. Great combination of flavours.

Texas Benedict

bacon, eggs, biscuts and gravy, Chicken, breakfast, brunch, philadelphia,
Submitted by catscratch

Biscuit topped with fried chicken breast topped with bacon topped with fried egg topped with sausage gravy. Even as much a glutton as I am, I couldn't finish this sunofagun. I left the buscuits, but did my best on the rest. The potatoes were a bit, how do I say this... cremated. And there were a lot of little bits that I didn't want to eat. Plus... I mean just potatoes in the deep fryer. Gimmie some good homefries with onions and maybe some hot peppers and this'n gets another star! All in all, It hit the spot and I had a great brunch and a great time (despite the DJ and his disruptive behavior. He actually screamed out a cuss word in the middle of our meal!)

Space Needle Scramble

breakfast, spinach, eggs, mushroom, cheese, onion, diner,
Submitted by Finn

I love eating at diners, so when I spotted this one I had to stop in. It's 8:00 on a Sunday morning and already there's a line-up, a promising sign. Not exactly sure why they pay homage to a Seattle landmark 400km to the north; for the veggie sausage maybe? Whatever the reason this scramble was awesome. Eggs were fluffy, cheese nicely melted and spinach not too soggy - great combination of flavours. I question just how veggie the sausage really was (it sure tasted like meat) but other than that I dug into this dish with gusto.

Typically cooked. There's not much to say about fried eggs. The service was insanely slow and uninterested.

Smoked Salmon Scramble

brunch, smoked salmon, eggs, toast,
Submitted by Finn

We haven't been here in over two years. We loved it (only one gripe and that was small-ish portion sizes) but then my wife got pregnant, we moved out of the neighbourhood and, well, our taste buds have been suffering ever since. Last weekend we in the area so... "Let's go to Seb's!" I settled in to the smoked salmon scrambled eggs with onions and cream cheese. Delicious. Great coffee, great food, comfortable atmosphere, and an accommodating staff - all the ingredients for a good meal. My only complaint is the portions are still on the small side. The plate in the picture looks big, but credit good presentation for that.

Main Street Eggs

brunch, eggs, beans, sausage,
Submitted by Finn

I would usually avoid patronizing any establishment that is decorated in some sort of Hobbit theme, complete with tree trunks and cavern-like bathrooms. But I make an exception for Locus, one of my favourite spots in Vancouver. Cool vibe, excellent food and the owner is more than gracious, not to mention a total hoot to talk to. Eggs over easy, bourbon-molasses baked beans and rosemary chicken sausage, served with hot bread and flavoured butters. Delicious! Bottomless Americanos too. You heard me right, bottomless Americanos.

Trucker's Breakfast

breakfast, eggs, toast, veggie bacon, vegetarian,
Submitted by Finn

Three eggs, veggie bacon, potatoes and toast. I guess that what you eat when you're haulin' rig? Personally I drive a Subaru, but I like to eat like a trucker whenever I can, so my eyes naturally gravitated to this menu item. Huh, it seems truckers eat pretty standard breakfast fare, nothing outstanding here, but decently prepared and the coffee's good.

Mushroom and Herb Frittata

brunch, fritatta, mushroom, basil, eggs,
Submitted by Finn

One of our favourite places for a casual bite to eat. Well prepared food, good choice of beers, all coffees are Americanos, plus a ton of room for our son to run around. Great frittata with fresh basil, sun dried tomatoes, crimini mushrooms and brie. The only thing I could have done without was the syrup used to garnish the plate. Tasteless and tart (okay, I guess tart technically is a flavour), I ended off eating around the syrup.

The menu isn't very veggie friendly so my wife modified the menu and asked for the special without meat. It was decent but some peanut butter for the toast would have been nice.

A beautifull Saturday morning in Yaletown. The location of this restaurant is perfect, right along the seawall, overlooking the harbour and false creek. The meal suited the setting.
