Half PIRI Barbecue Chicken

Chicken, piri, Portugese, dinner, barbeque,
Submitted by Finn

One of Vancouver's delicious little secrets. Tucked unassumingly on Commercial St (not Commercial Drive) is Casa Verde, a family run Portuguese restaurant. If you're lucky enough to order the Piri BBQ Chicken (it's often sold out) do it. The sauce was lightly spiced and chicken tender. The salad and fries were average, but I didn't order this dish for the sides - the chicken was the main attraction here.

Enchiladas Suzias

Drive past that Bellis Fair mess and get some decent food in the town of Bellingham. Two authentic enchiladas stuffed with chicken, accompanied by the usual suspects - beans, rice and salad. My wife raved, so it gets four stars.

Submitted by davidmead

Great first "lunch out" in 2008. Nice big portion and was very spicy (which is how we asked for it). Chicken sautéed with tomatoes, onions and bell peppers along with Basmati rice and a plain Naan bread.

Spicy Chicken Karaage at Sonomama

karaage, Chicken, japanese, sonomama,
Submitted by livetodine

Had this just today at Sonomama Japanese Restaurant at 980 Granville St. Due to lack of foot traffic, sadly they will be closing next week after only being open for 1-2 years which is tragic cuz its one of the better Japanese restaurants in downtown Vancouver!

Texas Benedict

bacon, eggs, biscuts and gravy, Chicken, breakfast, brunch, philadelphia,
Submitted by catscratch

Biscuit topped with fried chicken breast topped with bacon topped with fried egg topped with sausage gravy. Even as much a glutton as I am, I couldn't finish this sunofagun. I left the buscuits, but did my best on the rest. The potatoes were a bit, how do I say this... cremated. And there were a lot of little bits that I didn't want to eat. Plus... I mean just potatoes in the deep fryer. Gimmie some good homefries with onions and maybe some hot peppers and this'n gets another star! All in all, It hit the spot and I had a great brunch and a great time (despite the DJ and his disruptive behavior. He actually screamed out a cuss word in the middle of our meal!)

Combo #2

Chicken, japanese, combo, tempura, dinner,

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me seven times and that's just embarrassing; although this last time was out of necessity, I couldn't convince the people I was with to eat somewhere else. So I've eaten at this restaurant seven times now, and each time I'm disappointed. There a distinct lack of flavour, everything I've eaten here is really, really bland. Sushi, ramen, udon, Donburri - it's all the same, watered down taste. Tonight I gave the Chicken Teriyaki dinner a try, and while I admit it was a little better, it was far from good. With so many great Japanese restaurants in Vancouver, there just no excuse for this place to still be open.

Chicken with Creamy Pesto Pasta

Chicken, pasta, pesto, alfredo, dinner,
Submitted by Finn

One of the most disappointing meals I've ever had. We had to wait over 50 minutes, and when my food finally arrived, I got an Alfredo sauce instead of Pesto; and a bland Alfredo sauce at that. When I mentioned to the waitress that the sauce wasn't a Pesto sauce, she replied, "Well that's how we make it here." To which I replied, "So you make your Pesto sauce without even a single speck of Basil?" She nodded. What a disaster!

Calzone Di Pollo

italian, dinner, calzone, Chicken,
Submitted by Finn

One of the few restaurants open Monday night in downtown Trois-Rivières. So if you consider this, you'd think the staff would be tripping all over themselves to wait on us - the only patrons in the entire place! But instead the cook comes out, gruffly asks why I took a picture of the menu (actually I'm surprised I don't get asked that more often), and when I explain it's for MealMe, he storms back into the kitchen. Now my wife and I are worried he might spit in our food. When my meal finally arrived I have to admit my first bite was taken cautiously, but after that I dove in with gusto. One of the best Calzones I've ever had. The tomato sauce was perfect, slightly sweet and not too acidic. The chicken was tender and the crust was light and crispy. "Maybe he spiced it with hate." suggests my wife. Well if this is the end result, he should stay angry.

Half Chicken Dinner

Chicken, dinner, airport, Fries, fast-food,
Submitted by Finn

Likely the closest thing I've ever had to real food at any airport, at least the chickens are roasted right on site (or they were fake chickens rotating on a spit for show - now that would be disappointing). This was pretty decent for franchised airport food, chicken was tender, juicy and fries not pulpy.Come to think about it this was one of the better meals I've had in a while. Not that I'll become a Swiss Chalet regular, but I was pleasantly surprised how good this was.
